Will Halloween Spook Your Cholesterol Numbers?

Trick or treat?! Ready or not, it’s around the corner … Halloween is almost here. Memories of going “trick-or-treating” are as vivid for me as any other childhood memory. Barely being able to breathe through an uncomfortable, scratchy mask … feeling empowered by wearing a superhero cape. I’ll be honest; part of me still wants to wear a super-hero cape from time to time. But now as an adult, all I can think about is the damage this candy is doing to my doctor suggested low cholesterol diet. (What my doctor doesn’t know won’t hurt me, right?)

Do you remember the warnings of your parents as a kid? “Don’t eat too much or you’ll get sick. You’re going to rot your teeth with all that candy.” Now I’m worried that my heart is getting stressed from eating too much artery clogging food … the same kind of food we all pass out on Halloween. It makes the cavity scare seem a little lame doesn’t it? Maybe instead of being a Super Hero, I’ll become the Super Nerd of the neighborhood and pass out packets of low cholesterol oatmeal in the kids pumpkin baskets and pillow cases. Then again, I’d rather not be cleaning up a carton of eggs splattered on the windows of my house the next morning.
