For the past ten years tens of thousands of vocalist have competed for the opportunity to perform on the hit television show, American Idol. For months, judges scour the country interviewing thousands of hopeful singers in each city. Many of the vocalists are outstanding, yet many are sing so poorly that it is baffling to understand why they would think they had a chance at competing. The single biggest problem is pitchy singing. The most obvious pitchy problem where a vocalist apparently can not figure out what key they are singing in. They may hit a few notes very well, and then fall into wildly off notes that are not the slightest bit close to the key.
The second most common problem is whether the overall pitch is close to the desired note, but the singer goes flat or sharp. In some cases a contestant may sing chronically flat, in which case the entire piece may sound dull. Singing sharp notes usually occurs when going for higher notes and overshooting them when jumping large intervals. Some vocalist are well trained and have taken voice lessons for years. Often this extra vocal training and remedy pitch problems, but for many singers they need more. In recent years new vocalist software has proven to train singers to sing on pitch within just a few minutes while using the software. When used as part of a regular vocal exercise program, the vocalist software the improvements continue even when on stage in live performances.
